Travelling to Mumbai for just the day? If you’re fully vaccinated, you no longer have to go through the hassle of getting an RT-PCR test before you board the flight or on arrival, announced the Maharashtra Government and Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai on Tuesday.

Until yesterday, passengers arriving into the city were required to take an RT-PCR test 48 hours before commencing their journey. This was initially for travellers from Gujarat, Goa, Delhi, Rajasthan and Kerala. However, due to the second wave, it was extended to passengers from all around the country. Now, all domestic passengers are exempted from providing an RT-PCR test.

The decision was taken in consideration of those travelling for business for the day and are unable to procure a test in the short time frame. “There are many passengers who are travelling to Delhi or other business places in the morning and are returning back on the same day. In such cases, conducting an RT-PCR test and getting the report in time becomes impossible,” BMC Municipal Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal wrote in the statement.
